CHAPTER SIXTEEN

The next morning David awoke early, and decided to go ahead and get in his workout while Amanda slept. He caught up on the world and business news as he sweated out his aerobic routine. Then he showered and shaved, and awoke Amanda by bringing in a tray with their breakfasts and coffee as she stretched and smiled sleepily at him, her good-morning kiss tasting slightly of their last night’s dessert wine. Once they had eaten and he had whisked away the remains to the kitchen, she asked about their plans for the day. He responded, “Madam, I am totally at your disposal, but I did have some ideas if you hadn’t already formed some desires of your own.” She responded, “Actually, I hadn’t yet given it any thought, since I’m not used to waking up in Wonderland every day. So why don’t you start by floating your own plans, and we can improvise from there.” David went on, “Well, as you may have detected, I woke up early and worked out, as is my pattern most of the time. So you may need to get in your own exercise. While you were doing that, I thought I could go out on a few errands the results of which you might find interesting. Though I would need to take a few measurements off of each of us first.” Amanda smiled and responded, “Oh goodie, more mysterious surprises! Measure away, my sweet man!”

David left the room and returned with a tape measure, and proceeded to document the circumference of each of their wrists, necks, and ankles in a notepad. After which he gave his new lover a kiss and headed on out, promising to return within a couple of hours. Amanda decided to follow his lead and make use of the gym. There she browsed his collection of DVDs to find an old favorite Masterpiece Theater costume drama to entertain her during her workout. After showering and carefully shaving herself to prepare for whatever erotic thrills might lay in store for the rest of the day, she pieced her way through David’s library. She pulled out some interesting books she hadn’t read and settling down in the great room to await his return while reading and listening to some jazz.

Meanwhile, David had called a jeweler who had done some custom work for his business and arranged to meet. The entrepreneur sketched out his idea, and arranged for delivery of its fruits as soon as possible, promising an accelerating substantial bonus the sooner the items could be completed. The jeweler thought hard, and said, “If you’re willing to pay that much, I believe I could pull an all-nighter and have it all by noon tomorrow!”, and they struck a deal. David’s next stop was a marine hardware store where he consulted at length about countersunk D-rings and their installation into fine hardwood surfaces. He ended up buying half a dozen of the clever little brass devices and the necessary tools to install them.
